Pope Meets with Philippines President Arroyo

Jun. 4, 2007 (CWNews.com) - Pope Benedict XVI met on June 4 with Gloria
Macapagal Arroyo, the president of the Philippines.
A
short Vatican statement released after the Monday-morning meeting
indicated that the Pope had spoken with Arroyo about “the
promotion of human rights and democratic institution” in
southeast Asia.
After he
meeting with Pope Benedict, President Arroyo spoke separately with
Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Vatican Secretary of State.
Sunday, June 3, President Arroyo was in St. Peter’s Square to
attend the canonization of St. Marie Eugenie de Jesus Milleret, the
French founder of the Sisters of the Assumption. Arroyo attended a
school administered by that order.
