one hour fast Question from on 06-19-2007: |
Dear Father, I know that one should have no food or drink within one hour of recieving Holy communion. How about priests celebrating mass? I heard priests can eat before but someone I know says they are not too sure they believe me. Thank you Father for all you do and for us with so many questions. You are appreciated more than you know. |
Answer by Rev. Mark J. Gantley, JCL on 06-20-2007: |
Priests are obligated to fast before the first Mass that they celebrate in a day. If they celebrate two or even three Masses on a day, then the fast does not apply to the second and third receptions of Holy Communion. |
