Question from jim on 2/5/2008:
This may be of interest to the original poster, and anyone with a devotion to the Holy Cross. I am a parishoner of Holy Transfiguration Melkite Catholic Church in McLean, VA (DC Metro area). The founder of the parish, Fr. Armand Jacopin, knew Pope John XXIII while he was still the patriarch of Venice. Fr. Armand received a relic of the Holy Cross and brought it back to the parish with him, where it still is today. In fact, it is more than a splinter, but a significant sized relic forming a Jerusalem cross with the wood, and is the largest known relic of the cross in North America. We also have a relic from the Crown of Thorns. I highly recommend anyone living in the Washington, D.C. area, or anyone else with such a desire, to make a visit to our parish to venerate the relics.
