Emergency Baptism

Question from Francis on 1/22/2008:
Our three week old son was admitted to the intensive care unit after needing he stopped breathing and his heart stopped. At our request the priest at the hospital conducted an emergency baptism for our son. My wife and I were present; Godparents or another witness were not present. Is this a valid baptism? If yes, can we still select Godparents, and is there something that must do to make their selection official?

Thank you for your consideration.

Your son's Baptism was valid, but you should speak to your Pastor about having the rest of the rite done. At that time, the godparents you select can make their promises.
