Question from anon on 2/4/2008:
I have a question about work on Sunday. If I have fulfilled my Sunday obligation of attending Mass, spent time praying the rosary, and some spiritual reading, is it sinful to work in my garden if I do not consider it work, but enjoy it as a hobby and a necessary form of exercise? For example, my husband and I spent several hours yesterday spreading mulch around plants and bushes. In some ways it was even necessary because the rain has prevented us from doing this earlier in the week when the mulch was delivered. I know to some this would be considered heavy labor or servile work. I don't want to deceive myself if this is wrong. But for future reference, I would really like to know, because there are many Sundays that I enjoy working in my garden. Thank you Father Levis and God bless you.

Anon, To a garden lover, work in the garden can never be considered servile work, and so is o.k. even on Sunday. Save me a daisy. Fr. Bob Levis
