Question from Anon on 2/6/2008:
Dear Fr. Levis: Someone recently brought up the subject of purgatory. Their understanding was that we no longer believe in purgatory, and your response was "who told you not to belive in purgatory"? Yes, I still do believe in purgatory, despite what any priest preaches. But here's the real kicker-- I understand that the priest at my parish preached one Sunday that we should no longer believe in purgatory! Where is he getting this information from? Apparantly other priests are preaching this also. Should the bishop be informed of this kind of teaching?--Or what action should be taken? Thanks Father.
Answer by Fr. Robert J. Levis on 2/6/2008:
Anon, The existence of Purgatory was defined as dogma and this can be found in Denziger 456, 464, 693, 840, 983, 998. Much and often defined. tell your priests this. Fr Bob Levis
