Question from Deb on 2/2/2008:
Can you believe this (I know you can, but it floored me)I'm not a student at Yale, just a neighbor, but I wish I could respond to this: This link is from a blog by a Yale student. http://ivycatholic.blogspot.com/ Abortion Insanity at Yale The original Yale Daily News article was pulled offline. Luckily, there are alternative copies hosted: Students who walked into WLH 119 on Tuesday night were greeted with models of the female pelvis complete with fallopian tubes, cervixes, vaginas — and papayas on which to perform mock abortions. In commemoration of the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision, the 35th anniversary of which is this month, the Reproductive Rights Action League at Yale (RALY), in conjunction with Yale Medical Students for Choice, demonstrated different abortion methods and techniques, answered questions students had about the procedures and encouraged students to be active in abortion-rights groups during last night’s presentation. ... “It’s not as scary as it seems. It’s just blood and mucus,” Khoury said, referring to the fetus remains in the device. She added, “You’ll be able to see arms and stuff, but still just miniscule.” Evans and [Yale Med Student Rasha] Khoury also explained the finer points of abortion-clinic etiquette, including some potentially sensitive terminology. Khoury said physicians performing abortions generally refer to the aborted fetus remains as “POC,” an acronym for “product of conception,” and refer to fetus’ hearts as “FH.” ... The presenters also urged the crowd to become involved in the abortion-rights movement by joining Reproductive Health Externships, a campaign in which volunteers are taught how to conduct abortions. “It’s fun because you meet people from all over the country who do them,” Khoury said. “It’s pretty inspiring.” These are shockingly honest admissions from the pro-abort side. Unborn human babies are just "blood and mucus" with "arms and stuff"? Coldly referring to the hearts of children with clinical acronyms? Abortions as a real good in the world, not just a necessary evil? These are radically pro-death statements, not just demands for health and privacy protections.
The pro-abort side is losing any validity to their self reported claim of being the "moderate" side in the abortion debate. This type of language will only drive more people to the side of life. (While not my position...) Many are willing to see abortion as last resort. But this celebration of abortion does not match the majority public opinion. Bad move, pro-aborts.
A revised and sanitized op/ed by Khoury replaced the powerfully sickening original article on the YDN website.
Answer by Judie Brown on 2/5/2008:
Dear Deb
It is indeed true that in their desperation to attract more people to the abortion rights movement, many have gone over the edge! It will not benefit them, but I just hope and pray that the pro-life side is strong enough to make the personhood argument without caving in to compromise.
There is no such thing as a preborn child whose life is unworthy of our love, defense and care.
