Praying to a saint

This seems to be the best forum for this question. When I pray to a saint to pray for me, should I assume that the saint will know (or have access to) the details of what or why, or would I explain details as if I was asking my neighbor to pray for me? - I don't think it matters much as far as whether they will or will not pray for me, just effect the fervor they may pray with. - Similar to a person with a heart condition needing more prayer in a given situation than a person without. Thanks.
