Question from on 06-29-2007:
I am writing a book and a Roman Catholic is given the last rites, if someone was standing next to the priest what would they see and hear.?

Can a priest hear a confession out of the church confessional?

Neville, IN such cases, the priest asks all surrounding the sick to leave the room as he hears the confession and then they return after the confession of sin. Yes, all hear the words of the Sacraments and see all that the priest does. Sounds great, good luck on your efforts. Fr. Bob Levis
