Question from Anon on 2/4/2008:
What is heaven? Is it a place? Is it a non-place? Does heaven "house" God? Is heaven eternal? Is heaven everlasting? What does it mean to say a place is outside of space and that an agent wills and acts outside of time? Does it make any sense at all?
Answer by Richard Geraghty on 2/9/2008:
Dear Anon,
The Church teaches that to be in heaven is to see God, an infinite spirit, face to face for all eternity even though we will not have a an actual physical face until the last judgment. We will be spirits of intelligence seeing the creator of intelligence. When the body is reunited with the soul, we will then get physical faces. And yet our eyes will not be dazzled. Yes, that is hard to understand. That is why we need the Church to teach it to us.
Dr. Geraghty
