plenary indulgence

Dear Father,
One must confess within a few days before or after the work performed for a plenary indulgence I have heard.
Previously David Gregson said one must confess as much as at least 20 days before or after the work performed for a plenary indulgence.
What is the correct number of days, if there is any?

The confession needs to be within "several" days of the indulgenced work. I think that 20 is far beyond several.
