We are being told to bow to the alter instead of the tabernacle, Which is it?
Answer by David Gregson on 5/15/2008:

On entering the church, if the tabernacle is in the sanctuary, you genuflect to it, but during Mass you bow to the altar, because that's where the Sacrifice takes place. Then, when Mass is over, you genuflect to the tabernacle before leaving.
