Receiving Communion Comment/Question
Question from Teresa Conti on 4/28/2008:

I am so sorry to see Catholics losing respect for the office of their Bishop over abortion and communion issues. We do not know everything a bishop has done, and he does not need to tell us everything.

I think one must be excommunicated by the pope or his local bishop. But there is not a requirement to tell anyone about this.

I also believe my reading of the abortion issues states that anyone who has direct assistance with an abortion is excommunicated. So, this would apply to the doctor, nurses, patient, obviously. I think it would apply to someone knowingly driving or supplying money for the procedure. And they must know the penalty for what they do is excommunication, and not care about that. I am less sure it would apply to someone supplying a brochure only for the procedure. This person did not force another to have the procedure. Although it that was the means that ended up being used, then I would hold them directly responsible. I think the politicians have fooled theirselves into thinking since it isnt mandatory, its not their fault. But all the procedures that are done because "it is legal so it must be okay" are directly involved. If I dont get up from here and work everday to kick PP out of my town, I dont think Im directly involved in what goes on there. But I do defend life every chance I get especially among my teenage sons friends. Our children are so poorly educated it is sad..

Dear Teresa

I am not sure to what you are referring, but at American Life League we have not lost respect for the office of Bishop and in fact are encouraging them to enforce Church laws and help us end the scandal of pro-abortion public figures defiling the body of Christ by receiving Him in Holy Communion.

I wish you were correct in saying that Catholics must know about the fact that they automatically excommunicate themselves by their direct involvement in abortion. Most Catholics do not know this, and among those who do, many simply do not care.

Thank you for defending life at every opportunity, and God bless you!
