Aramaic gospel
Question from wondering on 3/7/2008:

If the original gospels were written in Greek, do you have any idea why the movie The Passion was done in Aramaic?

Answer by Fr. John Echert on 3/7/2008:
Because our Lord and many other observant Jews likely spoke Aramaic, which was the spoken language of Jews around Jerusalem. The New Testament was written later--though not so late as most modern scholars insist--and most of the Church was Greek speaking; hence, the language of the New Testament was Greek, by divine design.

God bless,

Father Echert
