When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. -The 2nd Joyful Mystery

Easter and Passover

Question from Regina Mangan on 3/18/2008:

Hello:

Why do we celebrate Easter when we do? Why do we not always celebrate it at the same time as the Jewish Passover, since that was the actual time that it had occured?

Thanks,

Regina

Answer by Fr. Robert J. Levis on 3/19/2008:
Regina, But to be parallel with the Jewish lunar calendar is precisely what the Church does in choosing the date for Holy Week and Easter. The dates sometimes don't agree since we use an historical calender not in keeping with the Hebrew choice. Fr. Bob Levis
