Scripture Passages Useful in Times of Near Despair

Question from Susan on 3/18/2008:

Are there any Scripture passages that I can turn to when I am tempted to commmit suicide? I understand that suicide is a grave sin, but the number of sufferings that God has asked me to bear cause me to despair of His love at times. I know the importance of offering suffering for the reparation of our own & others' sins, & I try to do that. But, sometimes God seems to ask much more than I can bear. I need to have somewhere to turn, some hope from God that He's with me!

Answer by Fr. John Echert on 3/18/2008:
I will open this up to readers and will post responses as they arrive. So stay tuned, Susan and do not do anything destructive to yourself, please!
