Qualifications to be Extraordinary Minister
Question from Mary M on 4/18/2008:
I am on the RCIA team at my church. A Catholic woman asked me if an unmarried woman could be an extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. I was shocked .... They were gossiping about this woman. I told her that I thought that it would be fine for her to be a minister. I knew the woman that she was talking about. I also said, none of us are worthy to do what we do. Please advise me of your thoughts on this. God bless you.
Answer by Rev. Mark J. Gantley, JCL on 5/1/2008:
I can't begin to understand why unmarried women would be excluded from serving as extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion. Such women are more worthy than the women who are gossiping.
