Our Blessed Mother
Question from Trevor D on 3/30/2008:
I have a question. How was our Blessed Mother created higher than all the angels, if her Son Jesus (being a higher being than His mother) became "a little lower than the angels" [Hebrews 2:9] I don't understand this but I trust your answer. Thank you.
Answer by Richard Geraghty on 4/29/2008:
Dear Trevor,
Human beings by nature are lower than the angels because angels are pure spirits while human beings have a spirit (the soul) which has a body connected with it. In one sense Christ is lower than the angels because he is a man. In an absolute sense he is the highest of all creatures because he is God. Since Mary is by nature a human being, she is lower than the angels. But since she is also the Mother of God, she is the queen of the angels.
Dr. Geraghty
