Kneeling during Communion
Question from Anonymous on 5/4/2008:
When is it proper to sit (instead of kneel) during the Communion service.
I've noticed that people are sitting during and after the distribution of Communion. In times past, people did not sit at all unless there was a communion meditation song or announcements. This was done out of reverence from what I understood. What does the Church recommend?
Answer by Fr. John Echert on 5/6/2008:
It is appropriate to kneel immediately following Holy Communion, but I am not aware of any particular liturgical rubric which would specify a length of time, other than what is typically done: until such time that the distribution of Holy Communion has been completed and the remaining Blessed Sacrament reposed in the Tabernacle.
God bless,
Father Echert
