John the Baptist
Question from bernard Burns on 5/2/2008:
At the massacre of the innocents, and Jesus flight into Egypt, was John the Baptist not found or was he too far outside Bethlehem at ein karem to be found by herods soldiers. Do you think that this was true Divine intervention,as part of God's plan.
Answer by Fr. John Echert on 5/3/2008:
No doubt providence played a part in this matter. As to whether he was still at his home--as you suggest--or already in the wilderness of elsewhere is not certain, though as I recall Blessed Emmerich stated that he was already in the wilderness at this time with his mother. Either way, it was only at Bethlehem that the massacre took place and so we can safely assume the Baptist was away from that relatively small town.
Thanks, Bernard
Father Echert
