Ark of the Covenant

Ark of the Covenant
Question from Michael Petek on 3/10/2008:

If the Ark of the Covenant were to be found today, would it still be lethal to touch or to look at? If so, would a Christian in the state of grace be immune?
Answer by David Gregson on 5/7/2008:

It's not likely the Ark of the Covenant would still be lethal today. In Old Testament times, it was too holy to be touched, because it symbolized God's presence among His people, and was viewed as God's throne on earth. But now God's throne on earth is His Church, and more particularly, every Catholic altar, to which He descends at the moment of consecration, and every tabernacle, where the Blessed Sacrament is reserved. The fact that God no longer strikes down those who desecrate holy things shows His greater patience with sinners on account of His Son's sufferings for the sins of the world.
