Question from Christine H. on 1/15/2008:
Some find the Catechism of the Catholic Church too "heavy", although there is a concise recapitulation at the end of every section. Also, in question/answer format is COMPENDIUM: CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH,from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and ESSENTIALS OF THE FAITH by Alfred McBride, O.Praem. available from Our Sunday Visitor. While the CCC is the "meat", the other two are certainly healthy "appetizers". Finally, for those disturbed by the so-called "tomb of Jesus" and other such hooey, THE CASE FOR THE REAL JESUS by Lee Strobel (a Protestant, and an investigative journalist who debunks all the money-making nonsense of Da Vinci, etc.)is an excellent antidote.
Answer by Fr. Robert J. Levis on 1/15/2008:
Christine, Don't ignore my humble little offering in catechetics, Jesus, the Catechism, and Me. I intended it for children (about the 6th grade level) but many thousands of adults find it very helpful. We just ordered the 5th printing. Fr. Bob Levis
