DAVINCI CODE

Document Title: "DAVINCI CODE
Question from on 04-08-2007:
What's your opinion about the book 'Da Vinci Code'? Do you think that it should be read by cathloics? Is the incidents in it true?
Answer by Fr. John Echert on 05-01-2007:
It is riddled with error and is a dangerous mix of truth and lie--precisely the manner in which Satan operates, by the way. Such works are particularly seductive because they cast error in the context of a narrative, and play upon the widespread ignorance of modern readers, including many Catholics. The basic theme of the work is that Jesus was a mere human who came to establish a the true form of paganism, with equal attention to the male and female sexual aspects of the 'divine'--nothing more than the natural world; he fathered a child by Mary Magdalene and she was to reign as queen of this new religion, but St. Peter and the other Apostles drove her into exile once Jesus died (and never rose), and the true heir to the throne of this alleged pagan religion is a descendant of this line, still to be found in modern France.

It is nonsense and blasphemy.

Thanks, RF

Father Echert"
