When the hour came, he took his place at table with the apostles. He said to them, I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer, for, I tell you, I shall not eat it (again) until there is fulfillment in the kingdom of God. Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and said, Take this and share it among yourselves; for I tell you (that) from this time on I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes. Then he took the bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, This is my body, which will be given for you; do this in memory of me. And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which will be shed for you. -The 5th Luminous Mystery

Denial of Eucharist

Denial of Eucharist

Question from David A. Metzger on 7/25/2008:

The governor of our state recently vetoed a proposed ban on late-term
abortions. She is Roman Catholic and is also pro-choice and advocates
abortion in certain circumstances. She attends the same parish as my
wife and I do. She is still receiving the Eucharistic sacrament and this
does not sound right for her to do. Is there anything we can do, speak
to our priest? Or contact the diocesean priest which is also in our
hometown? We are concerned because our priest and bishop are aware
of her pro-choice stands she takes.

Answer by Rev. Mark J. Gantley, JCL on 7/30/2008:

You have a right to make your concerns known to your pastor and
bishop.

It seems like one archbishop who acted against a governor in a similar
situation has recently been appointed as head of the Supreme Tribunal
of the Apostolic Signatura at the Vatican.
