Blessed Mother
Question from Connie B. on 7/28/2008:
Dear Father, While watching Mass on EWTN, I noticed that the elderly deacon bowed his head very reverently when the Blessed Mother's name was mentioned in prayer. I love the Blessed Mother very much but do not adore her. Is that not an action reserved for God alone?
Answer by Fr. Jay Toborowsky on 8/8/2008:
A "rubric" (rule) in the General Instruction of the Roman Missal (basically the "how to" of saying Mass) says that, at the mention of the names of "Jesus", "Mary", and the Saint of the Day (for example, today, August 8, is the Feast of St. Dominic), that a neck bow should occur.
