Question from LS on 3/31/2008:
Hello Father. I had heard it said that the piercung of Christ on the Cross symbolised the birth of the Church. I always thought Pentescost was. Can you explain this to me and where this started from? Thank you in advance!
Answer by Fr. John Echert on 3/31/2008:
Inasmuch as water and blood poured forth from Jesus on the Cross, representing the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Eucharist, we can see the symbols of the life of the Church, though the formal birth of the Church temporally is typically set at Pentecost.
God bless,
Father Echert
