Obedience to the Pope

Question from Anon on 4/12/2008:

Dear Father Levis,

I what fields are Catholics required to give obedience to the statements of the Pope? Also, what does it mean to be a "cafeteria catholic?" I've heard that phrase bounced around a bit.

Thank you.

Answer by Fr. Robert J. Levis on 4/14/2008:
Anon, A "cafeteria Catholic" chooses what he wants in the way of religion, not what the Church teaches or demands. He follows his own relativity in Faith, in religion, in life. Christ set up a Church on his 12 Apostles, left them the Gospels to teach and to defend. Many moderns reject all this and go their own way. We must accept all dogmas and doctrines presented by Christ's Church. Fr. Bob Levis
