Spilled consecrated wine
Question from Victoria on 5/9/2008:
Two weeks ago at Mass, I spilled consecrated wine on my blouse. It's a sizable stain. I kept the spill covered with my hands crossed over my heart until I was able to consult the priest about what to do. As an adult altar server and trainer, he knew that I was not concerned with cleaning the blouse, but I know that I can't leave the church with a consecrated host and that the GIRM states that consecrated wine cannot be poured down a sink connected to the sewer system. He and the soon-to-be ordained deacon said that it was okay to go home and throw it in the wash. I'm not comfortable with that, so I still have the blouse, stain and all. What do I do?

Victoria--
Soak the blouse in a basin of water, then launder as usual. The basin water can then be poured into the earth (e.g., garden, backyard).
