End of World ???
Question from Larry on 5/9/2008:
Father in the word's of Jesus and in the Epistles of the Apostles the word's end of the world is used. But i've been told it is a miss translation as the correct translation should read end of this AGE or end of the AGE. If so that does explain why we say in our profession of faith world with out end.So have i been told correctly?????
Answer by Fr. John Echert on 5/10/2008:
World without end is an English translation that does not always do justice to the Greek original--in the New Testament--or Latin, in cases of prayers or creeds. In no way should "world without end" be interpreted to mean that the world as we know it--physical--will never end, that is, remain as it is. But creation itself will never come to an end but will continue into eternity, though much of creation will be transformed at the end of the present age. I personally would prefer a more literal translation, to avoid the confusion you note.
Thanks, Larry
Father Echert
