re. wine at communion

Question from Marie on 10/1/2007:

Dr. Geraghty,

Considering that Canadian federal law specifically states that the law prohibiting the serving of alcohol to minors does not apply if it is for religious purposes, I would be very surprised if American state laws were considerably different.

That said, it's true that the consumption of a large amount of the precious blood will make one drunk since the incidents of wine are still present. That's why we don't consume much more than a sip when we receive.

For many of us we will take in more alcohol in our cough or cold medications than we will in receiving Communion under both species.

Answer by Richard Geraghty on 10/3/2007:

Dear Marie,

Thanks for your note.

Dr. Geraghty
