Protestant Bible

Question from Michael on 10/3/2007:

I am a student and Penn State University. Recently a group called the "Gideons" were handing out pocket sized copies of the New Testament, New King James Version. According to the Catechism of Pius X:

"A Christian to whom a Bible has been offered by a Protestant or an agent of the Protestants should reject it with disgust, because it is forbidden by the Church. If it was accepted by inadvertence, it must be burnt as soon as possible or handed in to the Parish Priest." - http://www.ewtn.com/library/CATECHSM/PIUSXCAT.HTM#Precepts

Is this still in effect? Must I burn this Bible or give it to a priest?

Answer by Fr. Robert J. Levis on 10/4/2007:

Michael, Give it to a priest. The ecumenical movement today would have you keep this Bible and compare it with the Catholic Bible. But why not follow this older advice since you are not well-versed in biblical studies. Fr. Bob Levis
