Question from diane on 10/3/2007:
I heard you on your show the other night discussing the First Saturday Devotions. Sister Lucia was asked to spread the Devotion in l925whenJesus appeared to her in the chapel of her convent.. There was no such thing as Saturday evening Mass until the 60's I believe. So the two devotions of First Friday and First Saturday went together. Saturday has always been given to honor Mary in the Church. We have always been blessed to have a morning Mass and allowed to have First Saturday Devotions where we pray the rosary ,offer reparations to her Immaculate Heart for the 5 ways in which mankind offends her---blasphemies and heresies agoainst her Immaculate Conception, her perpetual virginity, her Divine Maternity(and the refusal to accept her as the Mother of all mankind),for those who publicly try to implant in childrens hearts contempt and even hatred for her, and for those who try to insult her directly in her shrines and images. Pope Benedict asked that the name be changed to World Apostolate of Fatima in order to clear up any misunderstandings that the Blue Army name may have conveyed( as being something that didn't promote peace). He also made it the only approved public Marian Apostolate We also meditate on the mysteries for 15 minutes to keep her company with the intention of making reparation to her heart encircled with thorns . We are fortunate to have a Marian order of priests .For those not so fortunate, the devotion is allowed on the Saturday evening Mass or even the Sunday Mass. Sacramental Confession and Holy Communion are also part of the devotion. I guess there is no question, just wanted to join in the discussion. Thanks, I always enjoy your program.Diane
