I'm not really sure this question is related to liturgy, but if not your area please let me know to whom it should be directed.

I am a convert which may explain my question. Is it proper to ask that masses be said for my deceased parents who were not Catholic, but were christians? Thanks.

Yes, you can have Masses offered for the repose of the souls of non-Catholics.
