Altar crucifix

Question from Eric on 2/25/2008:
Father Levis, why do some Catholic churches have altar crucifixs and others do not? I think it is nice to have them and I thought this was a requirement from the 18th century.

Thanks, Eric
Answer by Fr. Robert J. Levis on 2/26/2008:
Eric, I believe the regulations require a crucifix in view of the celebrant. Thus the crucifix is on the altar itself or in clear view of all. Fr. Bob Levis
