Single never married
Question from Anonymous on 2/21/2008:

Because I am woman that has never been married and I am in my mid-thirties, many people feel the need to fix me up with someone. I usually kindly thank them for their concern; I know they mean well. However, all the men they are trying to fix me up with are divorced. I am finally on the right path and I don't want to screw it up. Do you think I should just come right out and tell these well meaning individuals that I can not get involved because according to the Bible and church teachings the man is still married to his first wife; this would constitute a sin of adultery?

Answer by Robert J. Flummerfelt, J.C.L. on 2/25/2008:
Hi Anonymous,

Thank you for your question. If you believe that you have been called to be a single woman by God, then that is your prerogative to follow God's call. Regarding how to address the attempts of others trying to find a date for you, I would continue to politely decline without any need for explanation. If someone asks and you feel comfortable, then go ahead and explain your reservations from a moral perspective about marrying a divorced man.

Peace, Bob
