Question from Greg on 5/31/2008:
Father Levis, Thank you for taking my question. My question relates to haveing a personal and living relationship with the saints. How do you develop a loveing relationship with Christ and the saints? I hear people talk of how close they are to a certain saint or how their relationship with Christ is growing and dynamic( The latter from Baptist friends of mine). How do you gain this? Father My heart burns to be closer to Christ, the Blessed Mother and the Saints. Is their a sure way to this? Thank You for your work.
Answer by Fr. Robert J. Levis on 6/4/2008:
Greg, St. John of the Cross is very strong on our denuding ourselves of our attachments. These are those likes and choices of distractions, pleasures, enjoyments, TV, etc. etc. He calls them all attachments and they enslave us to them, and are a very real and costly portion of our lives. Look at the time we spend on amusements, on TV, on sports, on the movies. If we spent the same time in pursuing Christ within us, we would not be so lonely and miserable. Today we are so hynotized and distracted by this "stuff", we have no joy, no love, no attraction to Christ who wants us as God to live His Life. God bless. Fr. Bob Levis
