homosexuality and ordination
Question from anon on 5/28/2008:

One point both you and the questioner missed is one that was shared with me by a priest who is a very close ( straight) friend.

Priests are brothers to each other. They need to be there for each other because only they understand the unique challenges of the priesthood.

A homosexual priest- even if chaste ( celibate means unmarried)-puts a burden on what is a close relationship....no different than if a woman were to enter a close personal relationship with a straight priest. There may be no intention for anything improper, but humans are humans.

The homosexual priest may find it difficult to enter the necessary close relationship with another man without it being a near occasion of sin for him. It may make straight priests uncomfortable....and if one homosexual priest turns to another for support, there is more likely to be trouble.

I don't tend to post comments that are not questions, but in this situation I am making an exception.
