Question from anon on 10/2/2007:
Hello Fr. Levis:
I have a question regarding confirmation. Our child along with about 20 other children where gearing up for confirmation. Suddenly and for reasons no one really understands the priest has pulled the plug and indicated confirmation will not be held in our parish. We have been given no indication when confirmation will if ever resume. Our child has specifically asked to receive confirmation. I know if the priest doesn't reverse his decision this will have to be taken to the Bishop as 15 parents are very upset. If confirmation is not done this year we will have been without it for four years and some kids will be 16 or 17. My question is do you know of any valid reason that sacraments can be denied or even postponed when a person specifically asks for them? In our case our child attends Sunday mass, is a cup minister, servers and we have assured the priest we would make him available for all classes except due to illness.
I am more than perplexed by this one.

Anon, Definitely I suggest that you appeal to your b ishop if your pastor refuses to give the reason for his decision to postpone this Sacrament. Perhaps he has good reasons, perhaps not. But you have the right to know. I know one parish where the confirming bishop interrupted and sent all home with the remark that none of the confirmandi were prepared to receive the Sacrament. Sometimes, the teens are not cooperative enough to be taught. Perhaps this? Fr. Bob Levis
